Before our independence, the British ruled us. So Pakistan adopted Sterling Pound after independence. But after 1948, the State bank of Pakistan issued banknotes.

Pakistani government adopted USD as a Foreign Exchange Currency on 17th September 1971. After that, the US dollar rate increased steadily, and 1 USD to PKR in 1980 became equal to 9.99 rupees, and by the time of 1983, 1 US dollar was equal to 13.12 PKR.
1 USD to PKR in 1990:
In 1990, 1 US dollar was equal to 21.91 Pakistani rupees. 1 USD to PKR in 1992 became equal to 25.08 rupees. 1 USD to PKR in 1995 was equal to 31.64 rupees. All the above exchange rates showed a gradual devaluation of Pakistani currency as compared to USD.

1 USD to PKR in 2000Â was equal to 52 rupees which were just a little higher than the previous year as 1 USD to PKR in 1999 was equal to 51.90 rupees.
